Tuesday, November 24th
7:00 to 8:30pm
At the Athens Library
Please note that this meeting is on a different day of the week.
Have you ever wondered what you can do in advance to prepare for the next power outage or ice storm? As we move into the season of inclement weather, join us for an informative discussion led by Linda Solt of the American Red Cross of Southeastern Ohio. She will share her presentation on preparing an emergency/disaster kit for each person in your family, even your pets. There will also be time for questions and discussion about all ARC-related topics including childproofing your home, choking, and hands-only CPR. It will be an evening chock full of good information so bring your pens and notebooks!
For our October meeting, guest speaker, Dr. Randall Longenecker, will discuss birth in Ohio Amish communities. For 30 years, he worked with his Amish patients, as well as lay and direct entry midwives, to create affordable alternatives to the traditional schedule and setting of perinatal care – simplified payment packages, group visits, shared care, home birth backup, low-intervention hospital births, and “educational” ultrasounds. He will share stories and take questions as to how lessons learned might apply in our community. Wednesday, October 28th, 7-8:30 at the Athens Public Library. Children welcome. All our monthly meetings are free and open to the public!

Come learn some tools that can help you to provide comfort and support to families that have experienced loss and leave with a sense of hope and confidence that you too can be there for someone if need be. It is an important topic and we hope you will join us Wednesday, September 30th, 7pm at the Athens Public Library.
Our monthly meeting for September covers a very important topic that we typically shy away from openly discussing in our culture. I encourage you to attend with an open mind and heart because the unfortunate reality is that many of us experience these types of loss in our lives, and we each need a supportive community in which to heal. Come learn some tools that can help you to provide this type of comfort and support and leave with a sense of hope and confidence that you too can be there for someone if need be. It is an important topic and we hope you will join us.
Have a wonderful week and we’ll see you soon!
Executive Director, The Birth Circle
Supporting Families Through a Loss
Wednesday, September 30th from 7-8:30pm at the Athens Public Library
Stillbirth, miscarriage and infant death are often uncomfortable topics in our culture. This leaves families that experience loss feeling isolated in their grief. Come listen to moms and families who have experienced pregnancy or infant loss share what was and is helpful to them as they journey toward healing.
The intent of this meeting is to empower us all to walk beside our friends and family who experience loss. You will leave with a list of ideas and confidence in your ability to help people who are grieving. Councelor Rachel Siegel will be facilitating.
Birth Circle at the Paw Paw Festival
Every year, the Birth Circle co-sponsors a baby care and nursing tent at the Paw Paw festival. (Sept 11-13 at Lake Snowden). We still need volunteers for set-up on Thursday! If you are available to help with that or if you are interested in assisting with donations, tear down, planning, programming or anything else please contact Rachel Szostek at firstname.lastname@example.org. We want this to be a place of comfort and retreat for families, and we appreciate any help you can provide!
A Huge Thanks!!
This year’s Birth Circle/La Leche League Yard Sale Fundraiser was enormously successful!! Our organizers Amy Kovach and Carolyn Hain did a phenomenal job with the help of so many of you! A HUGE thanks goes out to all of you who donated items, who volunteered your time, and to those of you who came to shop! We are so grateful!
We hope you will join us at Richland Avenue Park for our annual picnic gathering on Wednesday, and even though school has begun, everyone will enjoy a fun summer evening with fellow Birth Circle families. All are welcome!
Donations are still being accepted for our annual yard sale! If you have maternity, baby and child-related items to donate which are gently used and in good working order, please bring them to 102 Sunnyside in Athens. For more information, you can email Carolyn at email@example.com. If you would like a donation receipt, please contact Claudia at firstname.lastname@example.org. Thank you to everyone who has already donated!
We are looking for several shifts to be covered–set up, clean up and everything in between! This year the sale will be held at the East State Street shelter house. This fundraiser helps us continue to bring you informative meetings and fun family events! Please contact Carolyn at email@example.com if you would like to help out – thank you!!

Every year, the Birth Circle co-sponsors a baby care and nursing tent at the Paw Paw festival.
