Benefits of Doula Care/Role of a Birth Partner

Wednesday, March 31
7:00 to 8:30pm
at the Athens Library

Local doulas will discuss the history and benefits of doula care: What is a doula? How can a doula support you, your partner, and your expanding family through birth and the postpartum period? We'll also exchange ideas for other birth partners such as husbands, mothers, etc.

*This month's sponsor is Jennifer Cochran, Licensed Massage Therapist, offering Swedish massage, myofascial release, and deep tissue massage in the comfort of your own home. Pregnancy massage, or prenatal massage, supports the health and well-being of both mother and child. Massage reduces stress and anxiety, relieves muscle tension and pain, promotes relaxation, improves circulation and immune function, and alleviates physical and mental fatigue. Jennifer can be reached at jennijan@yahoo.com or 740-593-6869.

Birth Circle Announcements

2008 was a year of great growth and change for the Birth Circle! To read our 2008 News and Appeal Letter, click here

Contributors Needed!
The Birth Circle is putting together a recipe book for pregnant and nursing women and their families. It will be a collaboration of local and regional people and businesses, and proceeds will benefit the Birth Circle. Our goal is to make this cookbook personal, fun, healthful, and helpful. If you would like to learn more or if you have a recipe that you would like to contribute, please contact Timi Singley at timisingley@yahoo.com with the subject as: MOM’S COOKBOOK.

New Sling Library
We have decided to add a "sling library" to The Birth Circle's lending library, which will allow you to check out one of a variety of slings for a month at a time, for a $3 fee (the fee will go towards a fund to purchase new slings as styles and needs change).  That way you can test them out to see what works best for you and your baby, before spending the money to buy one!  In order to get started, we need SLING DONATIONS.  So, if you have an old Maya Wrap, Ergo, Moby, etc., just let us know and we'll come pick it up.

Why the Birth Circle?

“As a new parent, full of questions, I found The Birth Circle to be one of the most holistic resources for pregnancy, birth, labor and beyond, into the wide wonderful world of parenting!  The friends I have made, the support I need, and the information I craved are all quenched by the wholesome goodness of the The Birth Circle!!!!!”
– Erin, mother of one
